Professional Growth Plan
Part of one of my assignments in LIS 650: Library Administration and Management, we were required to look to the future and create a step-by-step plan on where we would like to be in five years. It was very beneficial to have to reflect on what I truly wanted out of the profession as I have worked in three major types of libraries including public, academic, and special collections/archives. I had to determine which type of library I was the most passionate about and could build a career on. By setting deadlines for professional goals, along with providing available resources, has made my future clearer as well as feasible to execute.
Memberships to Professional Organizations
American Library AssociationThe American Library Association is the pillar of librarianship within the United States of America, creating key values, ethics, and making resources available to all librarians across the country. I joined at the start of my Spring 2016 semester and enjoy the discussions, publications, and resources available through ALA.

North Carolina Library AssociationI first attending NCLA back in 2012 as a curious observer, I wanted to see if library school was for me. Five years later, I'm attending NCLA with less than a semester away from being an official professional librarian. NCLA has been an excellent networking resource through the workshops, round table memberships, and list servs.

Society of American ArchivistsI had always known about the SAA from my undergraduate studies in history and a brief introduction through my internship at Hunter Library in WCU. Over the summer, I took a seminar in Preservation Management and rekindled by love for archives, making the membership with SAA a must. Currently, looking into attending some of the workshops connected with their programs of official certification for Archival Description.

Training Workshops
In June of 2016, I attended a workshop hosted by the Appalachia College Association in Richmond, Kentucky. The workshop was explaining the organization and format of the Digital Library of Appalachia, a digital repository dedicated to the history of the Appalachian region where most ACA member colleges and universities are located. The workshop covered topics such as standards for uploading new content, the parameters of what can be added to the collection and the inputted metadata for each item.
